Australia Day at Miss Browns

What are you doing on Australia Day? If you have nothing else planned for Thursday January 26, think about going to Miss Browns at 288 William Street in downtown Winnipeg.

Drop in anytime between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm, stay a while, and enjoy the deliciousness of their menu, which will include meat pies and other Aussie favs.

Have you tried their Aussie burger yet? 🙂

Miss Browns is owned and operated by Jenny (Canadian) and Steve (Australian), and they have an excellent menu that many of us have already sampled. Every January 26, they put on a slightly more downunder flavour for everyone to enjoy.

Last year a group of us from the DUCW went there for lunch, and are planning a repeat this year, so stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, head to Miss Browns on Thursday. Their meat pies are great, mate!

Dual Canadian citizens need to carry a valid Canadian passport

passportIf you are a dual Canadian citizen used to travelling to or transiting through Canada by air with a non-Canadian passport, you will no longer be able to do so as of November 10, 2016. You will need a valid Canadian passport to board your flight.

If your country needs you to enter and exit that country using a passport issued by its government, you will still need a valid Canadian passport to board your flight to Canada. Make sure to carry both passports when you travel.

Exception: If you are an American-Canadian dual citizen with a valid U.S. passport, you don’t need a Canadian passport to fly to Canada. However, you will still need to carry proper identification and meet the basic requirements to enter Canada.

Annual General Meeting

The outgoing executive for 2016. Thank you all for your work in the past 12 months.

The outgoing executive for 2016. Thank you all for your work in the past 12 months.

Join us on Friday November 25 from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, 764 Erin Street in Winnipeg.

We will be holding our Club elections and updating everyone on events and activities in 2016 and 2017.

Consider taking a turn on the executive – all positions are up for grabs – or just turn up and lend your support to those who keep the cogs turning. This is a great forum for raising suggestions for Club events or to catch up with your mates.

The bar will be open and snacks will be supplied.

NOTE: You need to be a member in good standing to be on the executive, so if you haven’t paid your dues, bring your money with you. Only $20 for an individual, and $30 for a couple / family.

We look forward to seeing all of you there.

Australian High Commission is coming to town

australian-passport-largeRepresentatives of the AHC are definitely coming to Winnipeg in late April 2017. Final dates and details to be decided, but this is the perfect opportunity for anyone wanting to renew their passport, apply for a new passport, or address any notarial issues or questions.

Once dates are finalised, you will be able to make a booking through the AHC’s website.

As part of the AHC’s consular and passport outreach, if there is sufficient interest, they will also host an Alumni networking reception for Australian alumni in the Winnipeg area. Alumni are graduates of an Australian university, vocational or training institution and living in the Winnipeg area. Exchange teachers who have taught at Australian schools or Australian teachers who are currently on exchange, teaching in the Winnipeg area, are also welcome to be part of this event.

If you are an alumni, please contact us at info@downunderclub.mb.ca so we can add your name to the contact list and forward you additional information.

Stay tuned for more details.
