he March 2015 issue of The Southern Yarn is ready to be retrieved. The big news this month is all the plans in the works for the Anzac Day event, 100 years from the WWI landing at Gallipoli by the troops from Australia and New Zealand.
We look forward to having you join all club members and guests at the event on Saturday April 25th.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup is coming to Winnipeg and there are several opportunities to see Australia and New Zealand in action.
Unfortunately, Canada isn’t playing here, but we can cheer on our other home countries.
Games will be played at the Winnipeg Stadium, and you can see Australia and New Zealand on the following dates:
June 8 — Australia vs. United States at 6:30 pm
June 12 — Australia vs. Nigeria at 4:00 pm
June 15 — New Zealand vs. China at 6:30 pm
There are other countries also playing on those dates, as well as on June 16, so check out the schedule and get your soccer fix today.
Tickets are already on sale and range from $30 to $80, and there are “ME + 3” deals that bring the price down even more.

SilverCity Polo Park is screening the brilliantly funny NZ movie “What We Do In The Shadows“. It’s running from today until at least next Thursday March 5 (check the theatre’s website for further dates).
The 1hr 26min comedy horror follows the lives of Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement), three flatmates who are just trying to get by and overcome life’s obstacles – being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood. Hundreds of years old, the vampires are finding that beyond sunlight catastrophes, hitting the main artery, and not being able to get a sense of their wardrobe without a reflection, modern society has them struggling with the mundane – paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts. For all you fans of the show, New York comedian Todd Barry, known as the “Third Conchord” on the HBO series Flight of the Conchords, is bringing his deadpan antics to the Park Theatre on May 21. Tickets, which sell for $22, are available the Park Theatre, Music Trader and online at Ticketfly.
Flight of the Conchords ran on HBO Canada, and although the series is wrapped, you can still catch them on Facebook and YouTube, so get watching!
