Earth Hour is March 23

This is a great opportunity to remember how much we rely on a steady stream of electricity, and impact it has on the world. Unlike an unplanned power failure, this gives you a chance to run around the house and turn stuff off, especially computers and the like, and sit in the dark together with your friends and/or family. It is quite fun and eye-opening, literally. I have also simply hit the main breaker for the house at 8:30 and left it off until midnight. (This has the added benefit of resetting any powered clocks to midnight automatically.) I challenge everyone to do this, at least for the one hour. Continue reading

An astonished film maker is coming to grips with the moment he witnessed one of nature’s rarest phenomenons – a tornado comprised entirely of fire – and lived to tell the tale. Chris Tangey had been out in Alice Springs, Australia, scouting locations for a new movie. Hands Up 4 New Zealand • Earthquake fundraiser | Event was Thursday April 7th, 2011 in Winnipeg

It is hard to believe it was more than two years ago that Christchurch New Zealand experienced a devastating earthquake.

February 22, 2011 will be remembered by the world, especially by those who experienced the event.

The Down Under Club of Winnipeg pulled together a benefit event on April 7th, 2011, headed up by Lynley Davidson.
